The American Kennel Cub has granted DCA permission to hold a Special Attraction to display dogs involved in the Backcross-LUA project. The Specialty Committee welcomes the opportunity to assist in the production of this Special Attraction and will do its best to meet the AKC requirements while encouraging a successful event.

The AKC has set forth specific procedures by which this display may take place and a copy of their instructions is on the following page. AKC has approved the specific dogs participating in the exhibition and only those pre-approved dogs may participate. These requirements were developed solely by AKC during the application process. The DCA Specialty show Event Committee urges all individuals to follow these directives by use of an honor system. Cooperation and adherence is greatly appreciated.

  • Exhibition dogs will be displayed in a parade setting in the main ballroom ring for 15 minutes following the conclusion of the Sweeps judging and completion of photos on Sunday, April 27, 2008. AKC dogs will be asked to exit the ballroom. A brief intermission will allow for coordination. Exhibition dogs will then enter the ballroom as a group at an appointed time. No AKC dogs will be allowed to remain in the ballroom during this exhibition.

  • Exhibition dogs will be displayed in a “booth” setting in the front lobby of the ballroom Monday, April 28 through Wednesday, April 30, from 9AM until 3PM.

  • By AKC mandate, exhibition dogs and AKC dogs must not intermingle. A gated, vacant area around the booth will be provided to avoid intermingling. Visitors to the booth may not be accompanied by an AKC dog.

  • Exhibition dogs will enter and exit the booth area through one set of the front doors to the lobby which will be gated. AKC dogs will not be permitted to use this set of doors during the exhibition times.

  • Exhibition dogs will not be permitted to be in the London Ballroom or adjacent areas except during the parade and during the exhibition days and times as described under the above guidelines.

  • There will be no competition of any kind allowed which involves exhibition dogs.

  • The Specialty Committee recognizes that certain personal needs of the exhibition dogs must be met and there will be no restrictions as to outside and the hotel exercise areas. Exhibitors are encouraged to use discretion and good judgment in all cases.

  • These procedures as well as all applicable DCA and AKC rules, will be strictly enforced in the best interest of the Dalmatian Club of America and the American Kennel Club. As always, in accordance with AKC rules, violations could result in Event Committee action.
Special Attraction for the Dalmatian Club of America
This is a Special request submitted by the Dalmatian Club of America. No special attraction can be held without written approval from the Event Operations Department (Chapter 11, Section 10, Rules Applying to Dog Shows). All clubs holding a Special Attractions and participants in theses events are governed by the same rules and regulations as that apply at all AKC® events. The Event Committee has the same responsibilities to see that all AKC Rules Regulations and Policies are adhered.

Your Special Attraction must be restricted to participants that are purebred and at least 6 months of age. If dogs other than those eligible for AKC registration are to be included, a list and or description of the dogs must be provided to the American Kennel Club® with the request. Exceptions to this would include well-known dogs with celebrity status, such as television or movie stars.

Un-entered dogs may participate in these special attractions, but must be at least six months of age.

An approval is given with the conditions that the special attraction cannot interfere with the orderly conduct of judging at the approved AKC event. It should be held during a break in judging, at the conclusion of the judging, or in an area far enough removed from the judging so as not to disturb the participants in the show. These dogs must be held in an area that would keep them separated from the regular AKC registered entrants in the event. There must be no intermingling of these special attraction participants (dogs) with the regular AKC registered dogs at any time on the grounds where the event is conducted. There can be no competition whereby these special attraction dogs would compete against any of the regular AKC registered dogs at this event. There will be no competitive Judging of these dogs between each other; they are on the premises for display only. This applies to any demonstrations; these dogs may be used for evaluation purposes only.

There must be a complete description submitted for approval as inclusion in the premium list. All dogs that participate must be at least six months of age.

  • Educational Seminars, with dogs used other than AKC registered dogs. It is recommended that this be conducted in an area removed from the regular AKC competition, if held on the same days as the regular AKC judging occurs.

  • Booths, If dogs used other than AKC registered dogs, they must be confined in the booth area, with an entrance an exit readily accessible so that intermingling with the regular participants, AKC Registered Dogs, are not mistaken for the exhibits.

There will be no Judging of special attractions or demonstrations.

Announcement of the event, which includes detailed information on eligibility and/or performance requirements, must be included in the premium list.
