Problem-Solving Workshop with Elaine Hamill and Amy D. Stephens
Drawbridge Inn - London Hall Sunday, April 30 - 7:00 p.m. This workshop will be useful for anyone currently competing or interested in competing in obedience. It is a rare opportunity for those of us who train Dalmatians for the obedience ring (or who might be interested in learning more about it) to spend time working with two people who have consistently ranked at the top in this sport, not only in the breed, but also in all-breed ranking systems for several years. Elaine Hamill has been training and showing dogs in the Obedience arena for over 25 years. She has multiple High in Trial awards, High Combined awards, Obedience Trial Championships in several registries, as well as having titled dogs from 4 of the breed groups through advanced levels. She has been working in agility with her current Dalmatians for 4 years now and has achieved the MX and MXJ on "Alvin" and is working on his Masters Agility Championship. She also has experience in the Conformation ring, where she owner-handled "Alvin" to his Championship and is currently owner-handling "Linus". She is an AKC Obedience Judge, approved through Novice. Amy D. Stephens has been training and showing dogs in Obedience for 13 years, and like Elaine, has also begun working in Agility with her current dog, "Tuxedo". She has titled all of her dogs through advanced levels in Obedience, and has multiple High in Trial awards, High Combined awards, Obedience Trial Championships in several registries. She has earned the OA and OAJ in Agility on "Tuxedo" and is working on the AX and AXJ. She also has many years experience working with her dogs as Visitation Therapy Dogs at several rehab facilities near her home. In this workshop they will address the issues of training that help garner that happy, consistent qualifying ring performance. The key element in their combined training philosophies is a balanced approach to communicating with your canine partner. Also, they focus on teaching a dog to want to work for the HANDLER as the actual reward. This will be a discussion format, followed by individual run-throughs and problem-solving demonstrations. |
